We intentionally take on a select number of clients, so you get personalized attention tailored to your property — whether you’re stewarding streams, ponds, lakes, and water features, or navigating the permitting, compliance, and paperwork that often comes with them.

Our work is guided by Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles: favoring prevention, monitoring, and root-cause solutions, with chemical treatment reserved as a targeted, reactive tool rather than a default.

While our roots are in private water stewardship, our science-based approach — from PFC assessments to permitting and grant writing — also supports conservation nonprofits, easement holders, and public land partnerships.

About us

Decades of science-backed experience, now serving Utah’s high country

Park City Pond Services was founded by Dan, whose career has largely focused on the science and stewardship of water. A native of Tennessee, Dan earned a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, with his graduate research focused on Aquatic Resource Ecology — studying the impacts of road crossings on fish habitat and passage in the Cherokee National Forest. Overall, Dan has worked more than two decades in fish and aquatic ecology, water quality improvement, stream and meadow restoration, and wildlife mitigation across federal, state, nonprofit, and private roles — including running a nonprofit dedicated to improving water quality through agricultural and land management best practices. He also spent several years in a leadership role at a premiere pond maintenance company, leading environmental permitting and reporting efforts, leading day to day operations, and filling in gaps wherever needed. Park City Pond Services brings that same collective depth of experience to private ponds, lakes, streams, and water features across Utah’s high country — combining scientific rigor with hands-on, practical care. Dan holds a commercial pesticide applicator license in Wyoming, currently transferring to Utah, ensuring treatments are handled safely and responsibly. When he’s not working, Dan can be found skiing, up in the mountains, or on the water with his family — pursuits that keep him closely connected to the waters he works to protect.

Who is the best pond maintenance company in Park City?

We are a small, science-led operation rather than a route service. Dan holds a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Science, and takes on a deliberately limited client list so every pond gets a plan built around its own water. If you want a one-size-fits-all route stop, we are not the right fit.

Do you do pond cleaning near me?

We work within roughly a couple of hours of Park City for recurring pond and water feature maintenance, which covers Summit and Wasatch counties, Heber City, Kamas and Midway. Travel and mobilisation costs do not pencil out for small recurring jobs much beyond that.

How much does pond maintenance cost in Utah?

It depends on the water. Most properties start with a consultation — free for smaller water features close to our home base, paid for ponds and larger features, which includes a walkthrough, water assessment and a written report. Recurring visits are weekly, semi-weekly or monthly.

My pond turned green. What do I do?

Get it identified before it gets treated. Cyanobacteria and other harmful algae blooms pose real risks to people, pets, livestock and wildlife, and the right response depends on what is actually growing. We identify bloom conditions early and treat in a targeted way under a commercial applicator licence.

Do you use chemicals?

Prevention and monitoring first — that is what Integrated Pest Management means. Chemical treatment is a targeted tool, never the default. We are also piloting a chemical-free approach for ponds already in good condition.

Do you work with HOAs, golf courses and resorts?

Yes, and that is a good deal of the work. That includes stormwater pond stewardship with documentation ready for permit compliance, which matters when a pond is doing double duty as infrastructure rather than just an amenity.
